Zainab Sana Tarannum
Zainab Sana Tarannum is a final year student at Gujrat National Law University. She hails from a semi-rural area, Warora near Nagpur Maharashtra. Since the area she lives in is very small, the community celebrates different festivals together. She was blessed to grow up in an environment where she was introduced to different cultures. As a person with disability, she learnt the concept of discrimination and stigma from a very young age. Therefore, after joining law school, she advocated for an accessible environment. She filled Right to Information requests, wrote letters to college administration and local authority for accessible infrastructure. She is currently a member of the GNLU Disability cell. Zainab has interned under Justice Swapna Joshi where she learned different aspects of criminology. She was also part of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) on a research project to create an e-repository on “International Practices on legal aid to persons in police custody”. She aspires to become a Judicial Magistrate so that she can help people to secure their legal rights.
